Ngorongoro Crater Seventh Natural Wonder Of Africa.

Ngorongoro Crater is found in Northern Tanzania. It is part of the UNESCO Ngorongoro Consevation Area.

This area is about 3,200 square miles and ranges in height between 3,587 and 11,768 feet.

Nearby is the northwest is the Serengeti plains, ant to the east about 180 kilometers away is the City of Arusha.

Ngorongoro Crater was named one of the seventh natural wonders of Africa. The Crater itself is about 2000 feet deep, with a diameter of about 19 kilometers covering an area of 260 square kilometers. It sits at an altitude of 5900 feet above sea level.

It is considered to be the world's largest, inactive, unfilled volcanic crater. The floor of the crater is covered mainly by open plains grassland.

This rich pasture cover and abundant water supply supports a large resident population of up to 25,000 mainly grazing animals such as Wilderbeest, Zebras, Gazelles, Elands, Warthogs Crown Cranes, Ostriches.

It is one of the parks where the big five can also be found. The big five are Lions, Elephants, Hippos, Leopard and Buffalo.

Giraffes can be seen on the rim of the crater among resident Maasai population.

To desend unto the crater floor, it is necessary to use a 4 wheel drive comercial vehicle and an entrance fee of $295.00 US.

Ngorongoro can be visited year round and it is a great place to visit and a joy to behold......
